Creation

The National Agency of the Sanitary and Environmental Control of Products ( ANCSEP) is one of the key links of the new national system for the sanitary and environmental watch. It was set up by virtue of decree 99-779 dated April 5, 1999 ; It is located in les Berges du lac –Tunis. It comes under the authority of the Ministry of Public Health while keeping its managerial autonomy.


Missions

The ANCSEP is in charge of securing and coordinating the activities of sanitary and environmental control carried out by various control structures. It is also in charge of the follow up of these activities..
Within this framework it is responsible for the following:
• Defining the responsibilities and remits of control bodies coming its coordination authority, in cooperation with the concerned departments and institutions
• Keeping watch over the observance of rules and national and international standards on the sanitary and environmental control of products.
• Giving its opinion on issues relating to the implementation of standards and rules in force particularly standards on analyses’ processes and results.
• Contributing to the training and information in the field of sanitary and environmental control of products.
• Developing scientific relationships with international counterparts

Organization (organization chart)

The National Agency of the Sanitary and environmental Control of Products is headed by a Director General who is assisted by a joint consultation committee and scientific council.

The ANCSEP employs 38 persons. Its budget amounted 422 mille thousands of Tunisian Dinars in 2000. It is headed by a Director General who is the former director of the Hygiene and Environmental Protection Department in the Ministry of Public Health.
