Regional Offices of Agriculture Development
In each Governorate, a public administrative institution is set up, it is a financially autonomous entity coming under the Ministry of Agriculture and is called the Regional Office of Agriculture Development.
The Regional Office of Agriculture Development is headed by a Commissioner who is appointed by virtue of a decree on the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture.The regional Commissioner is assisted by a consultative committee.
Missions
The regional commissioner for agricultural development is in charge, within the Governorate, of implementing the Governmental agriculture policy .He is entrusted with following tasks:
• To watch over the implementation of rules and legislative provisions relating to the sectors coming under his authority particularly the protection of farming lands, the forests and water police as well as the health, animal and plant fields.
• To carry out land audits and follow up the grant of farming lands and the reform of lands except for the lands coming under the authority of the Agency of land reforms in irrigated public areas.
• To protect and develop forestry resources, secure the water and soil conservation and the planning of catchment basins.
• To manage the public hydraulic domain and the forestry domain as well as the conservation of natural resources.
• To carry out operations of hydraulic equipment, programs and projects on the hydro-farming and farming development except for national structures defined by the Ministry of agriculture.
• To manage the hydro-farming infrastructure in public areas, secure its maintenance and organize the distribution of irrigation waters.
• To protect plants and animals and contribute to the protection of the environment.
• To make agricultural reviews for the general public, set out technical assistance operations and encourage the grant of loans.
• To implement actions relating to the good progress of agricultural campaigns at the levels of supply, processing, and marketing.
• To carry out studies and surveys relating to agriculture allowing a better follow up and contributing to the drafting of national and regional agricultural development plans.
• To encourage farmers to set up adequate structures helping promote the sector.
• To carry out regional development actions and any specific missions entrusted to it by virtue of the rules and legislation in force.
• The regional office of agriculture development exerts the above mentioned missions in close cooperation with the concerned Governor in conformity with the legislation and regulations in force.
