Historique

1957 : setting up of the forestry research station in Tunis and the arboretum network in various regions of the country.

1959 : founding the first Tunisian research centre on water ( CREGR).

1962 : setting up the research centre on the use of salty waters in irrigation ( CRUESI) with the assistance of the United Nations special fund and the UNESCO.

1965 : setting up the Institute of reforestation in Tunis with the help of the United Nations special fund.

1966 : setting up of the National Institute of forestry researches by virtue of the finance law 66-79 dated December 29, 1966.

1970 : merger between the CRUESI project on salinity and the CREGR to give birth to the CRGR which is a multidisciplinary research institution.

1996 : setting up the National Institute of Rural Engineering, Water and Forests ( INRGREF)b y virtue of the finance law dated December 29, 1996. This institute is the merger between the INRF and the CRGR, it is financially autonomous and comes under the authority of the IRESA.

The INRGREF employs presently 45 permenant researchers, 26 technicians, 11 administrative staff and 334 qualified farming workers.

Missions

The National Institute of Researches on Rural Engineering, Water and Forests’ missions are:


Contributing to the drafting of the national research policy in the field of water, forests and rural engineering.
Organizing and carrying out scientific researches on the above mentioned sector.
Contributing to the protection, conservation and rationalizing the use of natural resources in the rural environment.
Valorizing the results of researches and the scientific know-how.
