Creation et missions

The Institute of Arid Areas of Medenine (IRA) was set up by virtue of law 76-6 dated January 7, 1976, its main missions are:
• Carrying out the necessary researches to the development of the agricultural sector, to the protection and conservation of natural resources and the fight against desertification in arid and desert areas.
• Training sessions for technicians and researchers in the field of arid crops and the fight against desertification.


Activities

  In addition to training and researches , IRA is in charge of following activities:
• Project studies, public awareness and consciousness raising
• Contributing to the popularization and the technical supervision of the agricultural sector in order to conserve and protect the natural resources against desertification.
• Carrying out integrated development project studies in the south
• Coordinating the activities of various bodies working in arid areas.
