Creation
The National Purification Office was set up by virtue of
law 37-74 dated August 03, 1974 modified by law 93-41 dated April 19,
1993 and is in charge of managing the purification sector in Tunisia.
It is a public industrial and commercial institution
which is financially autonomous coming under the authority of the Ministry
of Agriculture, Environment and Hydraulic Resources.
Missions
The incorporation law reviewed by the law dated April
1993 entrusted this institution with wider responsibilities to become
not only a manager of the purification networks but also a fundamental
operator in the protection of the hydric environment. Within this framework
the Office is in charge of following missions:
Fighting against any type of hydric pollution.
Managing, using, maintaining and renewing purification structures.
Promoting and reusing the sub-products of purification stations
Planning and executing integrated projects.
Organization
The National Purification Office is managed by a board
of directors which is headed by a President Director General appointed
by virtue of a decree and also by members representing the ministries
related to the purification activity as well as a representative from
major town districts.
According to the Government strategy aiming at reinforcing the decentralization
and at moving services closer to citizens, 13 regional departments are
spread according to geographic criteria. These departments are in charge
of studies, implementation of projects and their follow up. They are
also in charge of using and maintaining purification structures in their
intervention areas.
