Incorporation and legal status

The National Company of water exploitation and distribution (SONEDE) was set up by virtue of law 68-22 dated July 2, 1968, it comes under the authority of the Ministry of agriculture; it is an industrial and commercial public institution.

Attributions

The mission of SONEDE consists in providing the whole national territory with drinking water. It is in charge of using, maintaining and renewing the water catchment, transport, processing and distribution facilities.

Its mission is based on three main activities :

• Water production : production, processing and transport.
• Water distribution : managing and maintaining the network and equipment, managing consumers.
• Development: studies, works and supplying.

To do so, SONEDE has central, regional and local structures. It employs 7500 persons and has 1,4 millions subscribers who are supplied with water through 30.000 kilometers of pipes transferring 317 Mm3 of water/ year.
